Alienware laptops with Thunderbolt 5

Alienware uses the Area-51 name for both 16-inch and 18-inch gaming laptops, but that name does not settle the port standard. In either size, configurations with an RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 have two Thunderbolt 5 ports. RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 configurations use two Thunderbolt 4 ports instead. Check the GPU and complete Dell code together, especially when a retailer places several graphics options on one product page.

Why the GPU is part of the port specification

The 16 Area-51 and 18 Area-51 are separate 2025 families. Dell calls them AA16250 and AA18250, where the middle digits correspond to screen size. Those family codes help identify the chassis and manual, but neither code identifies one complete laptop. The processor, GPU, memory and storage still depend on the retail SKU or Dell order code.

Dell ties the rear USB-C ports to the selected GPU in both families. RTX 5070 Ti, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 configurations have two TB5 ports. RTX 5060 and RTX 5070 configurations have two TB4 ports. A listing can keep the same Area-51 name and photos while changing the GPU and the Thunderbolt version.

The three complete US configurations on this page all use a Core Ultra 9 275HX and 32GB of DDR5 memory. LAA16250-9475BLU-PUS is the 16-inch RTX 5070 Ti model with a 1TB SSD. The 18-inch choices are useaa18250hbtshpxq with RTX 5070 Ti and LAA18250-9420BLU-PUS with RTX 5080, both with a 2TB SSD. A separate RTX 5090 order code lacks complete memory and storage details, so it stays outside the exact comparison.

Buying guidance

Choosing an Alienware Area-51 with TB5

  • Choose the screen size first. The verified retail rows cover one 16-inch configuration and two 18-inch configurations, all with a Core Ultra 9 275HX and 32GB of memory.
  • Check the GPU before comparing configurations. RTX 5070 Ti is the lowest tier Dell documents with TB5. Removing Ti changes the GPU to RTX 5070 and the ports to TB4.
  • Match the complete code to the CPU, GPU, memory and storage. The AA16250 or AA18250 family code and a product photo cannot distinguish a lower-GPU TB4 build from a qualifying TB5 build.
