How to read the 16-inch size class

The quoted screen size is the panel diagonal, measured from one corner of the display area to the opposite corner. It does not mean the laptop is 16 inches wide. Two screens with the same diagonal can have different widths and heights when their aspect ratios differ, and the bezel adds to the laptop's outer dimensions. Check the manufacturer's width and depth if the machine must fit a sleeve, bag or work surface.

The size class does not establish weight, thickness, AC adapter size, battery runtime, cooling, fan noise or CPU and GPU performance. It also says nothing about resolution, refresh rate, brightness or color accuracy. Those details come from the exact specification and, for behavior such as heat, noise and battery life, independent testing of the model being considered.

Choose the hardware for the work first. A gaming buyer should compare the internal GPU, while professional software may require a particular operating system, GPU class or amount of memory. Check the panel specification separately when display quality matters. Thunderbolt 5 adds connections for compatible external devices, but it does not change the processor, graphics or screen built into the laptop. Match the full retail identifier after making those choices.
